A Stroll Around Lietzensee

A walk around the entire Lietzensee takes about an hour.

The Lietzensee Park in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is a beautiful spot for walking your dog, although leashes are required. The park offers lawns, benches, and a peaceful atmosphere along the shores of Lietzensee. There’s a playground for children and fitness equipment available for outdoor activities. Note that the lake is not a swimming lake, and bathing is prohibited. For a break, there’s a self-service café with a terrace by the water, and you can find other restaurants and cafés in the surrounding streets. The nearest subway station is "Sophie-Charlottenplatz" (U2).

Walking in the "Schlossgarten" (Palace Garden)

The changing seasons are especially captivating in the palace park—a scenic nature trail that is a paradise for dogs as well.

The palace garden invites you to a pleasant and beautiful walk at any time of the year. Every dog can enjoy plenty of exercise here while their owners admire the magnificent garden. With numerous paths and forks, you can tailor your walk to your endurance and needs.

Please note that this is a very well-maintained garden, especially in the front area, which is a popular attraction for tourists. The deeper you go into the park, the less formal the planting becomes. The garden is large enough to find quieter spots where dogs can occasionally run off-leash. However, it’s important to be considerate of joggers and other visitors and to follow the posted rules.

More Action at the Jungfernheide Dog Park

If your dog craves more action and freedom, the Jungfernheide dog park is not far away. In this expansive woodland area, your dog can run freely, play, and meet other dogs. Jungfernheide offers a varied environment with meadows, forest paths, and water spots, perfect for extended walks and intense play sessions. Here, dogs can really burn off energy while owners enjoy the natural surroundings.

A small but popular meeting spot for dog owners is near the Karl-August Church. The lawn is modest but provides enough green space for dogs to run around and socialize with other dogs. Karl-August-Platz is close to the shopping street Wilmersdorfer Straße, making it an ideal stop after errands in the area.

It’s important that your dog is well-trained to respond to recalls, as Karl-August-Platz is surrounded by parking spaces and light traffic. Don’t let your dog off-leash if you’re unsure to avoid potential dangers.

Note: On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Karl-August-Markt takes place. While the market is busy, the lawn usually remains quieter. However, it’s important that your dog behaves well to ensure the peaceful flow of the market and the safety of all visitors.

Small but Beautiful: Schustehruspark

Schustehruspark
Every dog quickly finds their circle of friends in Schustehrus Park. 😉

The idyllic Schustehruspark is a true gem for any dog owner. Here, dogs and their owners meet, and while the four-legged friends play together, you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this park, designed by Erwin Barth. Originally created as a private garden, Schustehruspark today impresses with its well-maintained green spaces and quiet corners, perfect for relaxation.

The park is somewhat hidden and not easy to reach, especially if you don’t live nearby or happen to be in the area. Nevertheless, it’s worth a visit for dog owners who appreciate a quiet, dog-friendly environment.

Leash Requirement: According to signs: Yes.

Note: In summer, please be considerate of other park visitors who use Schustehruspark for picnics or sports activities. It’s important to always carry dog waste bags and keep the park clean. The local authorities regularly check the area, so all rules should be followed.

Access is either via Richard-Wagner-Straße (side entrance of the Arno-Fuchs School) or via Krumme Straße towards the new Stadtbad Charlottenburg. The lawn borders a playground and a sports field. It may not be the most beautiful spot, but dogs feel very comfortable here, and the area is pleasantly quiet.

The heart of Charlottenburg definitely beats in the area around Savignyplatz. This charming square is particularly easy to reach, as it is directly on the S-Bahn line. Around Savignyplatz, you’ll find numerous cafés, restaurants, and boutiques to explore, inviting you to linger and stroll. The side streets are pleasantly quiet, especially during the week, making the area ideal for a relaxed walk.

For a break, the green space directly at Savignyplatz offers plenty of benches and a well-maintained lawn, perfect for relaxing. However, you should not let your dog off-leash here, as the heavily trafficked Kantstraße borders the green space. It’s also important to protect the flower beds on the edge of the lawn to maintain the well-kept atmosphere of the square.
