This is Nina's Story
What inspired you to become a pet sitter?
My dog passed away last year after 15 and a half wonderful years together, and I really missed being around dogs, as I’ve had one by my side for most of my life. At first, I took care of friends' dogs, and then I came across Petbnb. I thought it would be a great win-win situation.
Can you share a special experience or a heartwarming story from your time as a pet sitter?
I’m generally not part of the “dogs in bed” team; my dog was only allowed in bed in exceptional circumstances (though she didn’t care much for it either). However, two of my guest dogs were so irresistibly sweet that I couldn’t help but let them in the bed in the morning. They were so happy ❤ and I was too 🥰
There was also a male dog who was a bit difficult during our meet-and-greet, and I was already concerned about how things would go when he stayed with me. But when he finally arrived, he was so well-behaved—an absolute dream dog! It really showed me that first impressions can be misleading. 
When pet owners come to pick up their beloved dogs, they quickly notice how comfortable their pet felt with Nina. It's not uncommon to hear the phrase, "You’d rather stay here, wouldn’t you?"
Have you had experience with dogs suffering from separation anxiety? What approaches have you taken in such situations?
Even though I've often been warned that a dog might cry when their owner leaves, I’ve only encountered that once, and it was very brief. I simply distract the dog with treats or toys, and it always works! 😊 
What’s especially important to you when taking in a dog? What information do you think pet parents should bring to a meet-and-greet?
It’s important to know how the dog behaves around other dogs on the street, so I can be prepared when we encounter other dogs. Of course, knowing their feeding and walking routines is essential, but that’s probably a given. It’s also important to know which commands the dog responds to.
Do you have a favorite park or spot in Cologne where you like to walk with the guest dogs? Or any recommendations for nice walking paths?
I love taking the dogs to the Poller Wiesen by the Rhine or to Rheinpark. By the way, I never let guest dogs off the leash—it’s too risky for me.
